The arrival here was overwhelming, as the historical ambiance was immediately palpable. It was recommended to explore on foot to discover the picturesque cobblestone streets and pretty alleys. On the Vrijthof, the city's largest square, the impressive St. Servatius Basilica was admired. Besides, it was delightful to relax in one of the many cafés.
A highlight was a boat trip on the Maas, which provided a different perspective of the city and the opportunity to enjoy the serene nature around Maastricht. Shopping enthusiasts should visit Stokstraat, an elegant street with exclusive boutiques. Similarly, visiting the Boekhandel Dominicanen, an impressive bookstore in a former church, was very worthwhile.
Culinary delights were not neglected. The Dreiländereck near Vaals, where the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany meet, offered a special cultural and gastronomic mix. The selection of restaurants and cafés was excellent, and local specialties were tried in rustic bistros. At the end of the day, the city park offered a relaxing environment for a walk.
Accommodation was in a cozy bed & breakfast directly on the Maas; the view was splendid. The friendly staff and delicious breakfast made the stay unforgettable. Maastricht was definitely a place that remained in good memory and should be visited again someday.
