Why does the state of Bremen exist?

The federal state Bremen exists because it historically emerged from the former city-state Bremen and the former Free Hanseatic city Bremen. These areas were politically united over time to create a larger entity and facilitate administration. The development of the federal state Bremen was also shaped by economic and strategic considerations, as the Hanseatic City Bremen played a significant role in trade as an important Port location on the Weser.
